WorkNest
An interactive tool for designing a home or office desk setup and renting it, with delivery, setup and pickup included.
Problem
Renting a workspace usually means picking a desk, chair and screens from a flat product list with no sense of how they fit together. Will three monitors fit on that desk? Does the chair suit the room? What does the setup cost over a few months? People have to imagine the answers before they commit.
Solution
A mobile-first builder that draws the workspace to scale in the browser. Items are sized from their real-world dimensions, so a desk that is too narrow for the monitors shows a snug-fit warning. Sit-stand desks raise their legs and everything on top, and four lighting modes change the window view and the wall colour from sunrise to night. Five presets give a starting point, a score for focus, comfort and vibe suggests an improvement, and pricing updates with the rental length. The whole app is static and client-side, using real products, prices and photos from monis.rent.
Impact
- Turns a catalogue into something you can see and adjust, with the true size of each item shown in the room
- Shows the total and monthly price for each rental length from one week to six months, so the cost is clear before checkout
- Setups can be shared as a link that holds the whole design in the URL, so no account, database or server storage is needed
- Runs as a fully static site with no backend, which keeps it fast and cheap to host
My role
- Built it solo, end to end: concept, interface, rendering engine and deployment
- Wrote the layout engine that maps real product dimensions into a scalable scene, including up to three screens and the snug-fit warning
- Built the room renderer with time-of-day lighting and telescoping sit-stand desks, and a drag-to-move chair that turns to face the desk
- Prepared the product imagery with Python scripts that cut the photos into transparent images, and wrote the Zustand state, pricing logic and the URL-based share links
